I can't put it down. There were a few parts where I struggled with the flimsy world-building, but man, there is a but of a mystery. And I am a sucker for a mystery.

I am getting major hunger games vibes, with Carrick (Gale vibes), the training center, and her trainer (she manipulated into coming with her).

I need background information on the structure of society stat. Why are there even vampires? Who are mundanes (cuz they are the void people)? What is up with the sigil levels, because there seems like a lot more information we could unpack there?

I am liking it though.

DAMIEN!! Um, hello sexual tension. Well, that was an entire moment.

Xander stepped toward Amma so Damien stepped in front of Xander. Did I internally squee, YES, yes I did. My goodness.

"Kitten" I LOVE Xander. He's such a personality.

"I am the most frightening thing in this forest. Do you understand?" Girl, I would have snuggled him too for safety. 10/10 decision .

This book just keeps reminding me why I buy everything she writes.

I mean, I would also snuggle up against the most frightening thing in the forest, then. *shrug*

Once again. LOVE.

Did I pick this up again out of pettiness because my husband said he'd read it before me, yes. Yes I did.

That being said I FINALLY have hit the part where the book isn't quite as much of a slog to read. And is more storylike in nature.

I love the depth this book gives to the lore of Tolkein, just the beginning is always so so incredibly dense.

Are we headed toward mutual yearning?! These dreams!!

"...She was traveling with someone so openly homicidal toward anyone who dared touch her." Um, yes please.

He's feeling miserable when she is miserable!!

He 100% almost killed someone for abducting her.

Wait, wait, wait, wait. This was when he gave her the feather!!!

LOVE. I love this book. I love the changes for trad.

I was running to my indie edition to compare. Damien's thoughts toward Amma are different, and I am interested in seeing how that plays out. So, that's been an interesting change to the book.

I still adore Anamolous, and his firm belief that Kaz is a figment of Damien's imagination and magic isn't real. He's such a vivid character.

I feel like I had thought the Infernal Brotherhood of the Tempest was just silly before, but man, they are just trapped. There is no going back and changing your mind. Terrifying.

I love this subtle change where Amma's life is important to Damien, and poor Kaz, he was willing to let that swamp creature have him.

Also, I love the subtle references to what brought Amma searching for the scroll.

I love being back in this world.

I LOVE Damien's dad, that interaction and how it contrasts against the world they are in makes me laugh. I love that Damien's directions sent Amma out of the city, instead of where she asked for directions to go.

I know I am going to end up binging the rest of the trilogy, and the two novellas after this.
