This one's a little tough to get through. The writing style is basically "use obscure slang and strange sentence structure that requires one to re-read a sentence several times to understand." Definitely first-novel-itis. But it's different than a lot of stuff I've read and I appreciate how hard Faye worked to make it faithful to the time, so I keep persevering.

How is this so ducking long??? I'm at the end of the world but it's actually only 57% and why won't this book just END??? Jesus take the wheel and let the end come!

This is like that one time I read a Dashiell Hammett book. I recognized that it was well-written but in no way did it capture me or mean anything to me. I'm just counting down the pages until the neverending funny stops.

This book is trippy and bizarre, and I'm into it. Bobby O'Shea is definitely my favorite character.

Jesus, this book is moving slow. I like the characters, but damn the plot could be cut down by a good 100 pages.

Oh my god. The way that Diana is just meekly letting Matthew boss her around is driving me f*****g bananas. For someone who spent so much time protesting how independent she is and how she can take care of herself, she sure is a complete doormat. This situation had better shape up OR ELSE -- !!!

Jesus Christ, this book... It is so incredibly heavy, so difficult to read. I can't handle more then 20, 30 minutes at a time before I need a break.

About halfway through, and I'm really annoyed with how quickly we move from one story to the other. Staaaahhhhp. I feel like I'm experiencing whiplash from such quick, short changes or like I'm watching a ball move from side to side in a tennis game. It is seriously impacting my ability to fully enjoy this story. I hate it when writers try to get too clever with story structure.

This narrator is such a whiny, over-privileged kid. I can't wait till we get to some action....

Knowing Tanith Lee, I should have known these wouldn't be HAPPY lesbian love stories. God, she's so dark and weird... Loving it!

HELEN!!! WTF are you doing??? I am going to reach into this book, grab Helen by her throat, and strangle her. I really, really will. Uggggh!!!

This is bumming me out right now. A brilliant read but it's about the many small injustices that wear people down and about the impossible? crazy? idealistic? attempts to try to change two worlds. I'm starting to worry about the fate of our hero. :(

Literally, within the first page, Ursula Le Guin has blown my mind twice.

"There was a wall.... Like all walls it was ambiguous, two-faced. What was inside it and what was outside it depended on which side of it you were on."

Wow. I was just immediately sucked in, before I even knew it. This is gonna be good.

Witty, concise and unexpected descriptions and a narrator who manages to make you realize what a fool he is without realizing it himself. I'm loving it from page 1.

"Dougal gazed at him like a succubus whose mouth is its eyes." ^amazing.

Ugh. Does this ever get better? The writing style is clichéd, not witty; the protagonist is the whiniest little bitch ever, and I'm bored.
