I'm enjoying the characters and the story, but there is some thesaurus abuse evident in not-quite-correctly-used words that is driving me to distraction, making me have to stop frequently and pretend to edit it through highlights and notes.

To bad to even finish.

So far, the writing is so flowery (pun intended) that it's no longer enjoyable. Words get misused or are so hyperbolic that they barely make sense.
"Stabbing his eyelids over his irises as he battles her..."
"Her voratious hair leaves her shoulders bare"
I want to support the cause she writes for, and I want to see where the story goes, but I can barely stand the attempts at grandiose language.

Yes, I know this is fantasy, with highly stylized geography. But the country is called Alba, it's people called Pictish, and they paint themselves blue. Clearly, it's Scotland.
The prophesy Hyacinthe's mother utters of the Cullach Gorrym, translated to Black Boar, turns out to be highly significant. But in Gaelic, gorm (gor-rim) means BLUE. Dubh is black.
