Yes, I know this is fantasy, with highly stylized geography. But the country is called Alba, it's people called Pictish, and they paint themselves blue. Clearly, it's Scotland.
The prophesy Hyacinthe's mother utters of the Cullach Gorrym, translated to Black Boar, turns out to be highly significant. But in Gaelic, gorm (gor-rim) means BLUE. Dubh is black.

Yes, I know it's fantasy and countries are highly stylized. But one country in the book is called Alba. Their people are called Pictish. Their people are marked with blue dye. All indicators of Scots.
But one minor but pivotal thing is driving me nuts; Cullach Gorrym. In the book it's being translated as the Black Boar, however, in Gaelic Gorm (pron. "Gor-rim) means BLUE. Dubh is black.
