A comedic piece! I can hardly believe that that is a tone Chambers would take, but I love every bit of it. The dog chase, I can picture it too vividly – for sure every human being has seen a similar scene.
C even surprises me with talks of Cupid, and how “By Jove” is such a common expression. And I adore the fishing scene. It brings to life such past times from over a 100 years ago. Most delightful.

Street of the first shell

I’ve never been big on war stories, but Chambers’ writing has such flow, it’s hard for me to put down even this story. There’s also something about the bleakness of it, that despite all the horrors of war described here, maybe the most horrible one is, how, when you’re used to it, you just shrug as someone goes down next to you.

I like how he, or his main characters so far, approaches things as a man of science. There’s this love for strange instruments I already encountered in the mountains of madness.

Reading this, one would think Lovecraft *knew* things. Thinking of beings some people these days channel.

They say people go mad reading this. Or they say that you go mad reading the book in the book. Which is the book?
Loving this more than I should. Probably.

What an amazing experience to read the escape from the Whitecloaks while a real thunderstorm was raging above.
The tension still doesn’t ease up.

I love how there is never a still moment, things are happening constantly and it’s so vivid in my mind I still remember scenes from the first chapter when I read it months ago. Wonderful work.

They have methods to lengthen eyelashes. Probably with magic because in a world with no technology other than flushing toilets… heh.

Is this really written by a woman? “Her breasts tightened, becoming full and heavy, aching.”
Did Feyre just get highly pregnant??! What just happened…

I do not even struggle to speak; the spark of words dies so deep in my chest there is not even space to mount them on an exhale.

Chapter 20, in which Feyre turns into a chameleon (“I kept one eye on the weaver and used the other one to scan the room”) … oh, which court was that power from? Or is it her shape shifting ability she yet have to discover? Heh.

In the 30s she finally starts seeing colours again and I loved the transition.

Not a big fan of how Rhys’ thoughts when she saw them was the same way hers are. As if they were to think alike. Why would he conveniently think of all these memories when dealing with the A, for her to experience them after. It didn’t feel natural at all. Just like a way for the writer to press in some information.

I do like the pace of how their relationship develops though. But I liked that with Tamlin, too.

This book is a time capsule.
