Got the page number wrong!

Finally getting back into this! Luckily, I remember where I was.

Gotta say, some of these rhymes don't quite rhyme.

The author discusses the anime Cardcaptor Sakura, and also the Americanized version called Cardcaptors, I feel sorry, sincerely sorry, for the American kids who only got that butchered version.

Interestingly, there's a chapter devoted to Digimon (digital monsters! Digimon, you're the champions!).

It says here that when the Pokémon anime was first broadcast in the USA, the actual games weren't even out yet there. Weird.

Adrian tries to give his old Beano annuals to a poor family, but the son turns out to already have read them. Ah, those were the days, when it was a given that children read comics...
Funny thing about the Beano is, while we don't get it here in Sweden, some of the TV cartoons based on it have been broadcast here, like Bananaman, and Dennis and Gnasher.

Rodrick and his bandmates want to become the biggest band ever. Hm. Bigger, even, than Herman's Hermits and Las Ketchup? That's gonna be tough...!

It's funny how a band in the book is called Metallichihuahua. I guess that's a kids' book thing--if it's a heavy metal band, then you need to have the word "metal" in the name, just to make things clear.

Here's a quote from the book:

And even though they had a ton of "likes", they weren't getting their music out there...

You can tell this book was written by a guy in his fifties (no offense to people in their fifties!) by the way that the word "likes" is in quotation marks. An actual kid doesn't use quotation marks for that word.

There's a character here who's 35 years old, and has bags under his eyes as the artist's way of showing how old and run-down he's looking. I'm not like him, though, thank goodness. (I'm only 34, and already have bags under my eyes... Hahaha... Totally different...)

I love reading diaries. The real ones are the best ones. Fictional ones often try to have some sort of overarching plot, but I don't want that. I just want little interesting events, told in a terse but poetic style.

It says that when the protagonists were eating, "they let the food silence their mouths" (an old Swedish saying), but right afterwards comes this:

"'Hall', Fylking interrupted. 'You've got a damn nice place.'"

How can he interrupt if nobody's talking?

It's just another sign of how little thought this writer has put in her phrasing.

The text keeps talking about "the Big Game". I wonder if that's meant to reference the Super Bowl, and if so, I wonder if the reason that it's not mentioned by name is because the Super Bowl people are so very litigious about any use of the name. It would be just like Rowley to assume that he'd get sued for simply mentioning the name.

I know that these stories are supposed to be written with "Stylistic Suck", since the entire premise is that they were written by a grade-schooler, but they're actually pretty good stories. I guess when you take a story that would seem like a scary horror story to little Rowley Jefferson, what you end up with is a story that, judged on its own merits, is a genuinely good horror comedy.

I've been saving this one for a while. But 'tis Halloween, so it's time to get reading.

There's a heck of a lot of fourth-wall breaking here. You can tell the movie influenced it.

Apparently the main characters are only now learning the name of the suspect they investigated twice before. There is no reason why they shouldn't have learned his name already.

The writer commits pretty much every amateur error I know of. Poor grammar, spelling and punctuation; describing one character's thoughts in a scene that's meant to be from another character's point of view; character actions that make no sense...
