I'm truly tired of reading about Soledad's ass! Someone refers to it every other chapter.

No more frittatas!

One day I'm going to stop taking book recs from middle aged white women, who absolutely love foolishness. DNF

Correction: it's a 3rd act breakup.
So, slightly better storytelling than my least favorite trope.

Here comes the 2nd act breakup. I think I've had enough romance for now, because I'm sooooooo tired of this trope. 

I tried for a second time to read this, but I give up. This might be the earliest DNF I've done. I hate the names, weepy Ruth, and the dramatic twins. There's so much detail written about the estate, but barely anything that makes sense about the plot or characters.

This is all over the place. DNF

Biggest eye roll. I hate a happy ending coming out of nowhere. Now they found an obscure NC law to save part of the land?

A fantasy character who's my age, not a young adult? I'm sold!

These kids are on my last nerve!

Finally, they're talking about THE FIRE

I think this will be a DNF. I thought this book was about Jessie's career, maybe the Harlem Renaissance setting... But so far it's all about her affair with DuBois. I'm not at all interested in that, and his character sucks.

Penelope's story was so-so. Now my other favorite is completely ruined!!! Eloise getting trapped in a marriage to be a bang secretary... Nah.

Wish I had seen the edition with the slipper cover, so I'd have known this was a Cinderella story. 👎🏽

I love AHP's substack and podcast, so I thought I'd love this book. For some reason, I also thought it would be more of a memoir and maybe that's my problem.

I don't believe for one second that she started sleeping with all these men during her separation, and was so assertive with them. Leaving mid-intimacy if things weren't going well? Ghosting? Cussing out over text? Sure.

Oh no, I hate dialogue without quotation marks.

The hype always makes me forget I dislike his verbose writing.

So much over explaining, like hood lit. Even worse, actually, because there are footnotes!

Nah the cave is making me anxious and I know how this ends. No thank you.
