This writing is…so bad. It’s like the book was put into AI and then said “rewrite this.” Example: “the last thing I need is an attack of anxiety.”

Extremely low expectations for this. Possibly lower than low

I genuinely forgot I was reading this. I just opened it again and immediately realized why I forgot about it

This is decidedly better than the first but I still do not think the quality of the writing warrants the amount of attention this series gets. The writing is still not clear and there is still too much info-dumping going on. The release of info is not smooth or easy to follow most of the time but at least the smut improved?

The writing in this is somewhat painful but the plot is really good. For someone who is lauded as being SO smart, the FMC is incredibly dumb. Also, when she’s nervous, she starts reciting facts to calm her down and it’s definitely just trying to give us info but it could have been done so much better. I maintain my complaint there’s no seamless integration of info dumping

I know the beginning of a book is supposed to be info dumping for context and world building etc but there is so much “this is to the north and this is to the south and textiles come from this region” and so on. There is no seamless integration of information and so much of it is just stated. A lot of “do you know about this?” With a response of “ya when so and so did this in this year with these people?”

I’m not far but also I’m already at a state of what the fuck

I’m saying this now before I start, if I don’t update before I finish it’s because I’m crying in bed

It’s almost like a feeling of nostalgia, so happy and sad at the same time. Every child is so precious and I am so concerned

I probably should’ve cut myself off hours ago but I couldn’t. I’m a little bummed with how fast I’m reading this just because I’m so interested in the plot line.

I cannot believe this is a debut novel, the writing is fantastic and incredibly engaging. There are so far no errors which I feel can be common in debuts. The descriptions are perfect; not over the top and not so minimal that you have to start filling in the gaps in your head. The plot is good and I hate I have no one to text about my hypotheses but I’m far too gone to stop now.

I had every intention of waiting for this to be officially released so I could read it with friends but I’m far too impatient and already SO glad I started without them and I’m hardly through the first chapter

Ignoring the title because I don’t want to talk about it, I forgot how much I LOVE Maggie’s writing in this series and raven cycle and I didn’t realize how much I missed the world until I finally cracked open the book
