Yet after I chide High Prince Keldarion of the Winter Realm for not taking a dance partner, he stares at me with that icy-blue gaze, puts his rough hand on my cheek, and says, “The only person in this room I want to dance with is you.”

“I think I need another drink first. Or actually, I need to use the little fae’s room—” he

“Oh my god. You guys can never visit the human realm in December. You’d beat up the mall Santa!”

“Gods, Ezryn, do you have a metal rod up your ass too?

“Down, down, down she goes,” the goblins sing. “All the way to Mother. Down, down, down, she goes.”

Ezryn has left to patrol the Spring Realm, provoking goblins for his own sick joy. Dayton is probably passed out in a pile of his own sick. And Farron, of course, is…occupied.

When Quentin sat up he immediately wished he had in fact died in a catastrophic teleportation accident.

I was alive. She had saved my life. And Chosen me. I sucked in a life-giving breath, then the word rushed out like it had been punched from my lungs. “Why?!” She turned her head again, and that eye—sharp with intelligence, soft with compassion—fixed on me once more. ‘Because you’re worth it, Little Flame.’

I feel like this is a simple Disney quest book

“You have been asleep for six months and two days,” she added before she disappeared.

“Look, who’s the talking bear here?” Quentin snapped. “Is it you? Are you the talking fucking bear? All right. So shut the fuck up.”

“As a matter of fact, it’s not. A giant praying mantis tried to kill me earlier today, and I’d like to know why.”

“Let’s buy it a beer,” Quentin said. “I think it’s asleep. And anyway it doesn’t look that friendly.”

Otherwise the room was empty, except for a large brown bear wearing a waistcoat sitting slumped in a sturdy armchair in one corner. It wasn’t clear whether the bear was conscious or not.

“You achieve nothing by keeping any of us alive,” he says, “except cruelty. Put us broken monsters out of our misery, Nassun. The Earth, Schaffa, me, you … all of us.”
