Need to get a physical copy, this book really isn’t conducive to the digital format.

Was an interesting narrative memoir, but the author's tendency to blame any problem that arises on other people and to justify his own prejudiced viewpoints was too off-putting to make it worthwhile to read. Plenty of other Third Reich memoirs to be read out there that won't make me walk around with a chip on my shoulder all day.

Started off interesting, now trudging along. So many segues into seemingly pointless tangents. 19 hours and 51 minutes left in book; don't think I'll make it through.

SERIOUS PET PEEVE: I read the introduction, written by someone who OBVIOUSLY greatly admires the author/work, which - and I do not exaggerate - gives away the ENTIRE story. From the pivotal plot developments to the ultimate conclusion, it's all described in detail right there in the introduction. WHY SHOULD I NOW ALSO READ THE BOOK? Someone, please explain to me this standard, yet baffling, literary practice -__-.

Great book so far, but I'm slowing down my pace because (due to the synopsis), I already know it doesn't end well for the poor young men involved! Waiting to be in a better mood before I finish.

Much, much better than I anticipated. Most surprising so far is the author's comparisons made between the struggles of his transplanted "hillbilly" Appalachian family and black Southern transplants to Northern urban centers.

So repetitive and boring and completely lost my interest.

At this point just a litany of the author's career decisions. Mostly have lost interest.
