Bailing after the first chapter. Didn’t realize it was a horror story. I’m not into otherworldly books

Another case of speed up, fast forward and finally skipping chapters just to get the book done. I don’t need a list of what someone bought from the store unless it includes the gun used in the murder. Did not care for any of the characters Did not care who did it. Do not plan to read another Alafair Burke book. To many stinkers in a row. I actually liked some of her early works.

I never thought I would not finish one of Allende’s books, but 1/5 in, I didn’t care about any of the characters.

The beginning of the book- boring; the rest of the book-the only time I can remember hoping the protagonist died.

Second book by this author I didn’t care enough to finish.

There is nothing here to recommend the book.

I recommend Mr Cecil’s rendition. What a hoot. His voices are spot on.

I enjoy mysteries. I don’t like historical fiction. I don’t know where the line is drawn. This one: an old man who was a young man in World War I, is not an old man 20 years later. I read the reviews because the story was dragging and decided not to continue.

I agree with the need for an editor. Not all of the author’s thoughts should make it into the book.

This is not fine literature! Why are the questions at the back of the book written as if we are taking a college final exam? Did not find the ghost story credible. Did not understand the purpose of the nazi villain. We have enough villains in our own country.

Didn’t read it. Was thinking of Deaver. Not the same person.

Another book I couldn’t read fast enough so I could be done with it. It is not a compliment to finish a book in one night. It is a sign that there is nothing to the book.

Always love a mystery that makes me laugh out loud.

Didn’t realize it is continued in the next book

Didn’t finish. It is short stories and when my husband popped the CD out of his car stereo we couldn’t find the start of another story. Enjoyed some of the ones we heard. Found some very ho-hum.

Would have been a better book without the changes in direction in the last CD(9CD set). Despite not being a college hoops, I enjoyed it until then.

Listened to 1plus CD. couldn’t do it. Maybe it’s a YA book?

I won this book in the good reads give away. It is a prequel to the Cork O’Connor series. It seemed more like a YA version. I think His father, Liam, shared too much information with his son. The cops I know are very circumspect.

This book was Sarah Graves light.

As many have said-in need of lots of editing. The premise was interesting, the writing was not.

Did not appreciate that in the introduction Mr Pinckney found it necessary to reveal the ending. The discussion would have been better served at the end of the book. I also did not get a “lesbian vibe” from the writing. I truly enjoyed Ms Larsen’s writing.

Joan Didion was infinitely more readable than Hilton Als introduction.

Listened on tape. The reader sometimes dropped her voice for the punch line and I missed it.

The tension kept building. I enjoyed the ride.

Disappointing. I do not want historians to guess what people were thinking. It was also repetitive. John McEnroe would be interested to know that he wasn’t penalized for throwing tantrums.

I always like a mystery that makes me laugh.

This book was so painful. I don’t know how African Americans can read it. I understand they live it, but it made want to weep.

Was listening to this book on tape when I lost my library card. When I entered my new number, they took the book. I don’t think I missed anything as It had a hard time keeping my interest.
