Can't believe I'm saying this about something Connie Willis wrote but this is the most tiresome book I've ever read. I get that we're supposed to be frustrated with all the people in Briddey's life but Willis did the job of irritating us too well. I don't know if I'll finish this : /

This book is so much fun to read wow

"I can still try to be worth your time." OOO was not expecting the romance subplot to be so cute, that was great

Oh man the theorized origin of dragonscale is scarily relevant to what's happening with the anthrax outbreak among reindeer in siberia global warming is serious, guys

I pick up this book, it makes me cry, then I put it down thinking a little time will sort me out. I pick it up, it makes me cry again, and the cycle repeats. SO GOOD.

My heart is actually breaking apart oh god

Anticipating emotional devastation in a book is usually a recipe for disappointment but Yanagihara's prose contains so many little heartbreaks already in ordinary things. Tears probably inevitable.

I know Nick and Nora shouldn't be anywhere near my relationship goals, but they are and there you have it.

Would be nicer if they discussed Plato a bit more, but I'm enjoying it so far!

Advisory: Do not read this while eating. It is a bad idea.

This might be a chore to read at first but if you work at it, pages 250 and up will give you possibly the best magic duel ever written. Absolutely BRILLIANT.

i like the idea that lily's resisting blackmailing bertha because the letters are lawrence's, too, but it's clear she fundamentally objects to the idea. she's still a ninny, but a noble one.

this book is a slowly unfolding trainwreck. can't stop reading it because i want to grab lily bart by the shoulders and shake her, the giant ninny

Considering this book is set in 1874, it's pretty damn upsetting to see that essentially, not much has changed.

Getting a real strong The Yellow Wallpaper vibe from Megan's narrative, which is a great way to convince me bad things are lurking just around the corner.

It took me a while to fully submerge myself into this weird world of Miéville's but *hacker voice* IM IN

Am entertaining VERY STRONG SUSPICIONS RE: Sarah's true identity and what it forebodes for our dear Harriet Baxter

It's not often that I get to read the POV of a lady of advanced years, but now I realize I've totally been missing out. Old ladies who smoke, drink, and complain of arthritis -- can be pretty fascinating.

Inordinately entertained by Chapter 8's description of Pumblechook's town. With one paragraph, Dickens sets a little town/quiet village scene even way better than that song from Beauty and the Beast.

THERE'S SOMEONE IN THE TUNNEL WITH SCOTT. HAVING A PANIC ATTACK. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.

Something is going to happen to his daughter isn't it? Considering Pessl's fondness for straining father-daughter relationship subjects, I just know it will.

Devoured half of this book over the weekend until I realized at that rate I'd run out of book. It's creepy and it's dark and it's a lot like hopping down a rabbit hole of uneasy horror, and I never want to stop reading it.

this book is redefining all my personality goals, except for the bit where caterina keeps galloping off whilst heavily pregnant. i mean, good for her but for me that's the limit.

Really relating to Kvothe's neverending pile of money problems and debt right now
