I pick up this book, it makes me cry, then I put it down thinking a little time will sort me out. I pick it up, it makes me cry again, and the cycle repeats. SO GOOD.

Anticipating emotional devastation in a book is usually a recipe for disappointment but Yanagihara's prose contains so many little heartbreaks already in ordinary things. Tears probably inevitable.
