Loving this so far, the stage is being set.

“Hardin,” cried Wienis again, “order your priests back to their jobs.”
Hardin looked up coolly. “Order them yourself, Wienis, and see who is playing with forces too great for whom."

Hardin's pulling all the strings right now, perhaps because unlike everyone around him he refuses to be a puppet to anyone - not the barbarian lords of the Periphery, not even Seldon himself.

“It pays to be obvious, especially if you have a reputation for subtlety.”

“Don’t you see? It’s Galaxy-wide. It’s a worship of the past. It’s a deterioration—a stagnation!”
He stared from one to the other and they gazed fixedly at him.

Love Hardin's character. Great pace so far.

Really loving this so far.

My first delve into Science fiction, here goes nothing...

and then it hit me: could it be...is...is Geder an antagonist in this series? :o

picking sides is hard but can't help but root for Geder anyways :)

I love how Geder can go from innocent and guileless to: “You’ve just lied to me twice, Lord Ambassador. If you do it again, I’m sending your hands back to Asterilhold in their own box. Do you understand me?”

“Simeon wants me to keep Aster safe and make peace with King Lechan. I told him I would.”
“Ah,” Basrahip said. And a moment later, “And when you cannot do both, which will you choose?”

“Wars are easier to start than end, and where they take you is rarely where you intended to go,” the ambassador said. “It will be better for all of us to avoid it.”
