This book is the embodiment of setting your relationship status to “It’s complicated”. Engrossing.

I’m loving it, the epistolary sections are dredging up my own ability to think in threaded connective thoughts and it’s so enjoyable and considered.

Engaging and surprising story that just happens to be true. I enjoy the inclusion of demos and other recordings on the audio book. I find it interesting that these girls seem to have been universally loved as teenage musicians; there's a power in social support that kind of makes sense of their fame. I've enjoyed listening to their earlier music alongside stories about Cobain, Murmurs, and The Smashing Pumpkins.

The threat of a knowledgeable, unattached, independent, maternal, proud and strong-willed woman to the patriarchy… Galchen writes it so well. I love to see Katharina’s frustration, her condescension of fools, and her sadness and doubts.

Having read previous of Galchen’s fiction, I’m worried that there’ll be a disappointing non-ending. I’m hoping not, it’s clear, smart, and brave so far.

Great story.

I don’t think I’m enjoying this anymore? Alas.

Okay, so much happening. Impressive world-building. Intense time space cyborg monster physics stuff.

Retiring this book back to my to-read list with the intention to take it up later but not to finish it for now.

Started reading this on a road trip with my parents and it’s been nice as a distraction from the unpleasant numbness of driving; however, many a life development could be more briefly presented, Nevada in particular.

Not that into it :(

I’m so sick of ultrarich STEM creeps and traumatized (but invested) cops in books, but goddammit, I’m also curious.

Loving it.

After struggling to read this ebook for months (it’s simply not conducive to being read on a screen), I got a hardcover from the library. I’m enjoying it a lot. A classically anxious young woman acting realistically in a sophisticated setting, doing foolish little things near the sea and the flower gardens. I hope to make better progress on paper.

I really hope this doesn’t turn into Welcome to Your Authentic Indian Experience power struggles because that story is horrifyingly unpleasant.
