I gave up and quit reading at about the 80% mark. Just too hackneyed to go any further. This is little more than a "bodice-ripper" in an 18th century naval wrapper and borrowing heavily from John Paul Jones history as well.

Good plot, though the hero (Wes Wesley) gets a lot of inexplicable help from a passer-by (Mia). I enjoyed the read.

Enjoyed it - a police/detective mystery set in some ancient world, with bits of magic and fantasy thrown in. I nicely done blend of themes.

Excellent tale for those who love historical fiction. A strong hero who lives through major historical events at the beginning of the Hundred Years War. Bernard Cornwell excels at bringing the medieval life & times into clear focus while still entertaining the reader.

Did not find this book entertaining or even interesting, so quit reading.

I gave up on this one and quit. I like history, but this one is dull, dull, dull! The author seems to have little actual information, so the book is mostly rambling conjecture.

This story doesn't actually end. It's more like an episode of "perils of Pauline", leaving the heroine tied to the railroad tracks with the train approaching. I get that the author wants a lead-in to the second book in the series, but this one is blatantly chopped off in mid-scene. I feel like I'm being coerced into buying a sequel! Not good!

Another good tale in the continuing Ember War saga.

I'm now into Book II, which doesn't (so far) share much with Book I. Vivid characters and nsight into the times, but not much plot as far as I can see. It's slow going at times, but I am enjoying the high points.
