This is a fun book! (Thank you, T & R!) Difficult fruit might be difficult to find, or to cook, or to like, or it might have a difficult history that surprises you. Or it might play a part in some difficult aspect of the author's own life. Arranged alphabetically--I'm on K for kiwifruit. I could go on, but there's a limit on words for updates. This is a very dense book, which is really making me think about the children I work with, and the ways our early childhood education methods do and don't feed the minds and souls of preschoolers.

Very interesting but dense. Gives me a lot to think about in my daily work.

It's rough going. It's complex, alternating between time periods in the history of a family, and also revisiting events from different characters' points of view. And I am more or less ignorant of 20th century Chinese history. And it's LONG. But the writing is beautiful, I love the themes of language and music, and I will stick with it. Luckily it's not a library book, so I have time.

Very interesting so far. Clearly written, almost as a conversation between the author and reader.

I love the language, the story, the setting and the main characters. Several stars above the other novel(s) I'm reading.

It's not too exciting.

This time I could only read about five pages about the treatment of factory farm pigs before I turned off the Nook in horror, muttering "I can't. I can't."

Billy Collins writes poems so good that you have to hunt someone down who will listen to you read them out loud.
