I love SK. He is my literary hero for building full, red-blooded human beings that feel so real that you believe the unreal circumstances he puts them in. But god, in early works he throws the N word around like confetti (always by the bad guys but still it makes my spine curl) and women are usually written…not well. To quote Monty Python he got better! (Dolores Claiborne is a masterpiece) but big yikes for 1979

Interrupting Owen Meany to read this because I cannot wait to watch the movie and wanted a refresher since it’s been a minute. This is one of my favorite SK short stories. But woof, it is a teeny bit dated, a whole lot corny, but still has a lot of fabulous tension and suspense.

Fifth? Sixth reread? As my review states, this books sits at the very top shelf of my personal bookshelf. My million star read and coming back to it is like eating a bowl of macaroni and cheese or putting on a warm, cozy sweater on a cold day. I adore it with all of my heart and soul and falling back into the words is like coming home.

IDK. He’s obviously brilliant and I’m sure it’s worthy of its accolades but I’m suddenly starting to lose my appetite for reading about economics. I’ll see how I feel tomorrow night.

I’m not sure what this weirdness is all about but I’m intrigued and fairly sure it’s going somewhere. This book didn’t win the Pulitzer for nothing.

Strings and strings of elegant words, but riveting too.

This book is chaotic as hell and I’m not sure I’m in love anymore.

I cried with my mouth hanging open, the sad, empty place where the dick should be, and then, after a while, I just silently held the dog, but left my mouth gaping like a distended stomach, loose and dumb is a sentence that is in this book.

Girl. To quote a legend: I rarely say this to anyone but myself… but you have *got* to calm down.

There are so many quotable lines…the whole book is like a fever dream

I guess any calling, no matter what it is, is a kind of unresolvable ache. It’s a problem that you can’t fix, but there is some relief in knowing you will commit your whole life to trying.

I am IN LOVE with this book.

This is unlike anything I’ve read. This protagonist is wild lol

So this is weird but moves lightning fast. Definitely not a style I’ve read before so that’s a plus.

I don’t necessarily agree with “murder” but I’m so angry that she’s gone and angry at him so I’m not going to bother to correct him.

He completely abandoned her, has an affair with multiple women, said horrible things to her, lied and deceived her, told her their marriage had been a prison and/or a sham, but when she—desperate and alone—sought the comfort of someone else after they’ve already been separated, he has the unmitigated gall to be pissed off about it. For YEARS. 🤬

…and seeing [friends] as often as I like and generally changing myself without the terrible censorship of somebody like Sylvia confining my every impulse and inclination.

…while she’s devastated and taking care of your children in the house in the sticks you insisted on buying.

Ah yes. Here comes the part where I start to loathe Ted.

It seems like my progress is slow, but these pages are massive! And oh God, we’re coming to the end. 😭

My dislike of Ted has now begun to deepen…
