god there are so many characters with extremely dysfunctional lives, bad parents, complex sibling dynamics, etc. in the Osemanverse and i wish i would’ve started reading these when i was in school. i would’ve genuinely felt so seen by all these characters back then, like i do feel seen by them NOW but when i was a teenager? hoo boy.

Frances and Aled’s bond is so interesting. it somehow feels both like a possible romantic thing, but also a queerplatonic situation where they’re way better than just friends but nowhere near couple-y. and they feel autistic as FUUUCK to me as a queer autistic person. i see myself so much in this so far

i would genuinely love to see this book get an adaptation on a similar scale to Heartstopper, i fucking love these characters

rising from my grave, back from the dead! i haven’t really finished a book since September and i figured now’s the time. picked this up on a whim since heartstopper 6 finally got a release date and a cover reveal, and i’m fully into it thank GOD. i neeeeeed to finish this and read the rest of the osemanverse to get myself back into the swing of reading i think

oh yeah this shit fucking RIPS.

oh bitch this is fucking INSANE. really bringing back all the crazy feelings i had reading YA dystopians back in the day in a great way, but this has such a nasty, grimy atmosphere to it that a lot of ya stories lack. and i loooove the stylistic writing that captures both how uneducated Todd is AND his country accent. fucking fascinating.

forgive me if i’m not cooking at all like in the slightest here, but every house looks totally different in the map in the front of this book than they do in the map in We Were Liars except for the staff house, and there’s even one totally missing?? i think i know an element of this. like at least one. but we shall see.

it feels like shit’s about to get really shaken up in a minute here. idk the tension has been really high the whole time and now Cady is finally starting to notice the lies they’re throwing out casually. i am sooo uncomfortable lmao

ewwww that’s so subtly unsettling in context with the scene just before it.

also don’t love how Gat and Cady’s relationship is going. it feels like the usual teenage romance but then weird shit will happen and make me feel like Gat is hiding something with her. giving me the heebie-jeebies.

this is actually a great example of how people start treating you different when you get severely injured or newly diagnosed with a medical disorder/disability. the way everyone is treading egg shells around Cady is wild. probably for other reasons besides just feeling like they have to tiptoe around her new disability, but still important to discuss nevertheless.

the fact that one of my friends from high school recommending this to me this afternoon is what got me to finally pick this book up and not all the hype and conversation that’s been happening since 2014 is hilarious, but regardless i like the writing a lot. the atmosphere is dreamlike and haunting in a great way. i love reading about, and kind of hating, rich elites doing nonsense.

i’m loving all the different characters from the Oz series that are showing up. this is making me wanna go back and read all of the Oz books so i can be more well-informed on the world of Oz. i’m having sooooo much fun with this

ok this is actually such a fun take on a dark version of Wizard of Oz. it’s nothing spectacular but it’s definitely a compelling, grim, and fun read so far.

kinda unsettling as fuck lmao this is really fun so far! with the release of Wicked For Good i’m in an Ozian mood. this is scratching an itch i didn’t know needed scratched.

read a bunch of this while i was waiting for my phone battery to get replaced at the apple store and my GOD this prose is delicious, i can smell the dank grounds of Wuthering Heights and i can feel how dark this story is gonna get. i didn’t expect this to have a sort of frame narrative going into it but i love the way this is constructed.

this is SO unsettling. i can also say with almost 100% certainty that the creators of Resident Evil 4 had to have taken inspiration from The Shadow Over Innsmouth while creating the concept of the village in that game.

it’s really interesting reading an adaptation of an HP Lovecraft story which was adapted by a person of color because, as we know, Lovecraft was deeply racist and xenophobic. it creates such an interesting contrast between the obviously bigoted origins of this story vs. the experience of the person adapting the work and changing its form.

i randomly found this in my local library’s manga section and holy FUCK the way this artist brings Lovecraft’s imagery to life is so fucking disturbing, i am in love

JESUS FUCK. ok first of all, GORGEOUS prose. second of all, what a horrific and infuriating way to start a horror novel. i am IMMEDIATELY hooked

ok yeah this is still probably my favorite book of all time. even though this book is probably too long for its own good, it works perfectly for me for some reason. the prose GUTS ME. i want to write a book that feels this captivating to read and feels this well-developed. my heart was in my throat from how well King depicted Bill’s love for Audra in his section of the third chapter. absolutely riveting.
