the late-book shenanigans are so nuts it feels like the scariest yet most peaceful dream i’ve ever had. it is SO unique i fucking adore it.

MAJOR SPOILERS IN THIS UPDATE

wow i totally forgot the word Annihilation has a totally different extra purpose in the book than the movie. the psychologist using it as a hypnosis suggestion to immediately commit suicide, and trying to use it on the biologist when she finds her on the ground outside of the lighthouse???? genuinely terrifying.

this book is just. so masterful. the way the biologist’s loss of sanity happens so subtly and so slowly is so unnerving, like specifically the moment she says “If there had been an endless number of pages, I feared that I would have stood there reading for an eternity? until I fell to the floor and died of thirst or starvation” gave me chills. she is losing control of herself so completely, but slowly. so good.

GOD I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. it’s wild how this book is able to function in such a way where it feels like both a confessional and a science journal at the same time, and i love the non-linear structure of it.

genuinely forgot just how disorienting and insane this book is lmao the movie is similar in that way but with a much more linear and clearly defined narrative, and changes a lot from the book. i don’t even know how they would adapt this into film in a faithful way if i’m being honest.

reading this again because i need an old favorite to get myself back into the swing of reading.

god this is so much funnnn i forgot how over the top fun this series is, and i love love LOVE the weird ass bond between Prepotente and Miriam lol the way it bleeds out into the relationship they have with the other crawlers is so much fun

finally hopping back into this series. i’m done with moving to my new house and my life is settling back into place a bit so i’m going back headfirst into this again.

i sometimes forget there were pretty heavy deviations from the source material in the show until whats happening with darcy comes up in the books lol but i love both so much and think they work so well in tandem.

trying not to jump the gun in saying this, but this is already building up to being my favorite in the series thus far. there has been SO much interesting groundwork laid for the rest of this book and i cannot fucking wait to see how this goes.

see like this book is obviously fantastic just like the three before it, but idk something about this one feels so convoluted and kind of insane that it’s hard for it to keep my full attention idk why 😭 some of the best plot points of the series have happened in this book but i’m also like the stuff in between hasn’t kept me as gripped as the others

ya know i’m actually kinda struggling with this one. it hasn’t felt as emotionally compelling as the other books so far, and the action has been at the front and center in a way that kinda feels distracting to me.

there’s nothing quite like sitting in my work parking lot with my windows rolled down and reading like 45 pages before work LMAO
