i am consistently annoyed by how nonchalant Mr D acts about children in extremely dangerous situations. i’m waiting for the moment he decides to stop pretending not to care but it just doesn’t happen.

i feel like this is my favorite in the series so far by kind of a lot actually. the frigid atmosphere, the RIDICULOUS stakes, the fabulous new characters, and the insane plot happening in the background have me reading this SO compulsively.

i’ve had a pit in my stomach the whole time i’ve been reading this book i am fucking LOVING it

a teacher named Got Chalk is one of the funniest things i’ve read in the series thus far lmao

also finally my first time making my way through this entry so i’m suuuuper eager to jump in

yeah once it switches back to its original storyline it gets a lot better

i’m actually kinda struggling with this one a little bit. the fact that it relies so heavily on the story of The Odyssey for its narrative makes it a little less compelling for me than it should be. but it’s still good and i’m still eager to finish it and move on to the next book.

“‘Ah!’ the kids yelled in unison. ‘We are *not* having a blast in the pool!’” bro this whole cruise ship being under a spell causing the kids to all speak in unison is SO fucking funny 😭

reading these after finally experiencing The Odyssey in some form (the Nolan movie btw, i know Emily Wilson doesn’t like it very much but i enjoyed it nonetheless) is making this book in particular feel so fun to read lol the stuff with Polyphemus and Grover is hilarious

i now officially am at the bit i fully remember from this book and i’m so hype to finish it again and get to book two again!!

this is my third time reading this book and i STILL forgot about the twist of where the lightning bolt was!

the lotus casino stuff is so wild, and both the movie and the show got it all weird. the movie is just straight up kids doing drugs, and the show makes the lotus casino bits feel soooo drawn-out.

hilarious that Rick didn’t realize the Mississippi River wasn’t below the arch lmao, and also funny little geography/infrastructure inaccuracy, he said Percy and co. were gonna hop on a train from St Louis, Missouri to Denver, Colorado, but there are no direct train lines from St Louis to Denver. they’d have to go from St Louis to Chicago, then get on another train to Denver. but no biggie though lmao

i always forget about percy mailing medusa’s head to mount olympus LMFAO

not me getting almost halfway through this before i have to go to work LMAO i love this book so much

goddddd this book dude. i’ve always been so attached to it because when i was a kid i saw myself in Percy, i have adhd too (as well as autism) and seeing a kid with adhd doing awesome things like this genuinely made me feel like i could do anything if i put my mind to it, and going back to this first book feels like a big warm hug.

god this book is SO iconic

decided i needed a break from the absolute insanity of Dungeon Crawler Carl, and i got my hands on the original hardcovers of this series recently so i’ve been itching to finally finish reading these books. i figure now’s as good of a time as ever!!

dude this is so fucking fun! i looove the whole ghost of earth thing, the pokemon-but-not-turn-based card game combat, and i love how much is going on in so many different areas of this floor!

wanted to get through the introduction, opening of quest boxes/achievements, upgrades, etc. and i’ll get deeper into the book tomorrow morning. i really like this new setting and the new rules about the flags and the card game element that’s being set up for this installment. VERY cool new elements.

oh i looooooove the way this floor functions like Pokémon this is SO FUN
