The details of the beginnings of French Resistance in the area is fascinating. It’s not so cut and dried as school history made it seem. It took a lot of effort to unify people. And their reasoning wasn’t so much good against evil but free our country; first from collaborators/traitors then the Hun. “A civil war in a World war.”

The writing is very abrupt. I can tell he must be an actor. It reads almost like a screenplay. If only he’d put names beside the lines of who is doing the speaking or doing the thinking. It’s very confusing sometimes and hard to decipher. And yet despite that (and some rather crude moments) somehow I am compelled to read on to see what happens.

Skimming. I’ve put it down for a better book. Ugh.

So far the synopsis doesn’t match the book. I’m finding the book irritating and ridiculous.

A most beautifully written first chapter. Wonderful storytelling!

On page 162 and cheering! “You don’t want to get me started on what a real man is, Ernt Allbright. I’m holding on to my temper, but it could run away with me. And you do not want to see a big woman come at you. Trust me. So shut your trap and listen.”

Ohhhhhh! This book! The tears have started! This book makes you FEEL!

If you get to page 278 and aren’t crying and wrestling with your own questions of how this world doesn’t make sense, you haven’t lived long enough.
