Finally done with WoT and picking this back up. Remembering why I love Abercrombie. No one talks like this in real life, but who cares?

Why am I crying for *that* guy? He was a knob.

The Mat parts I like, but the rest I just want to be done with.

How long is Perrin going to be fantasying so hard? Ain't nobody ever fantasyed as hard as he is fantasying. It's like fantasy calvinball -- the rules cannot stay the same once. And I hate to say that it kinda ruins the effect. Funny that it was written by Sanderson, the prophet of hard magic systems.

This whole, "bubbles of evil" thing is just really dumb. Not enough to ruin the series, mind, but it's just such a dumb way to advance the plot, or to create extra plot out of thin air, where there was none before. The series is already long enough as it is, why include this silliness?

To have a duty was to have pride—just as to bear a burden was to gain strength.

Now this. This is the good stuff.

Reading this, with all the different characters all over the world Jordan has created, makes me think about how it has influenced other fantasy. Specifically, I'm thinking about ASOIAF. The way the characters are so far flung is interesting, and all with their own, weird ways of thinking on how the world is going to be saved. Lord of Chaos indeed.

Nynaeve is really getting on my nerves.

This Nynaeve POV has been pretty awful.

Count me in with Team Min. Elayne and Aviendha are both just annoying.

Paden Fain is really a fantastically awesome villain. I find myself almost hoping he comes out on top in the end, while I know he's really just there to be like Gollum -- the evil character who incidentally ends up thwarting the big bad's plans.

The casual easy in which so many POVs in these books consider other people to be their tools to be controlled is really kind of scary. This is only one of the examples that I've come across, but there are many.

Deeply wishing all the polygamy crap would go away

If I read that in a book written today, and given the earlier revelation that Nynaeve can only channel specifically when she was angry, I'd fully expect to learn, a couple of books down the line, that Nynaeve is actually trans. Or something stupid along those lines. Yay for old books.

I've read this book before. Let me think... Chosen one goes into the deadly wilderness... Finds the army that will follow him to greatness... Oh yeah. Dune.

I really wanted to do other things today, but this book has me hooked. I love the characters, and the world building is fantastic, too.
