This was a very slow and grueling start for me where I was questioning if I should DNF it. I’m glad I stuck it out and finished the book as I was engrossed in the story midway through. I love the animals, story, growth and hardship the characters face. I have not read Manacled so I don’t have a comparison but I did like the story and think the first 30% of the book could be condensed
