Ugh, I'm considering a DNF on this one, although I really don't like to not finish things.. I just don't find myself compelled to keep reading. I want to like it much more than I find myself actually liking it... It's like I want to recommend it to others, because it is really cool, but I just don't want to bother continuing to read it myself.

This was supposed to be my x-mas book this year, but I just picked it up today and couldn't help myself as soon as I got home! It's so fun to revisit the world if N0S4A2!

Currently re-reading and loving it!

I had a seriously harsh review of this the first time I read it (reviewed it actually, I know I've read it once as a teen as well), which surprises me because I'm discovering that many of my most memorable quotes and passages from Discworld apparently come from this book.

There is no way it is not getting 5 stars from me this time around!

Wow, this book has gotten some amazing reviews, and I was just about to give up almost before I started. I guess I'll give it another chance, but am I the only one completely turned off by the modern swearing and rather juvenile language? No one...? Just me...? Oh well, I guess I'll keep going...

My god this is depressing me so much, I need to take a break. I love everything I've read by Joe Hill, and this is quite a good book, but that's maybe a bit of the problem. Hill is really good at writing about the worst in good people put in bad situations. I need a hug and for someone to tell me it's really not all that bad.

Now this is more like it! Actually, this is exactly it; this is what I'm sure many readers will have come to this collection to read. Thomas delivers a tightly written and poignant tale that resonates in a subtle, yet very clear, way with relevant issues today. In retrospect, for me this is the beginning of this collection, and perfectly sets the tone of awe for the what lies in the depths, both oceanic and humane.

Ugh, the first story completely failed it's purpose of setting up this anthology! The only positive thing was the realistic portrayal of an angsty, emo, 20 year old, but it's too bad the whole thing reads as if it was written by said person. Juvenile, two-dimensional, and thematically fits the brief only in the sense of "I'm 14 and this is deep, man..."

Visceral, but in a really good way!

I'm only half-way through this book, and i can't believe how great this is! This is the first time in a long time I have had an aesthetic experience while reading a book - I am completely inthralled! I don't think this would be for everyone, it's not one of those "everybody will read and love" books, it's far too complex and intellectual to be appealing to mainstream audiences. Damn... I'm running out of characters f

So pretty! I've only got as far as the table of contents and I love it already.

The author is obsessed with the color purple, which is kind of fitting considering how much purple prose is in this novel.

I'm reading this because it's our book of the month at the store, but I'm not looking forward to this. After the first chapter, my misgivings about this book have not been dispelled, but rather confirmed. "The bottom of the walls in the hall is discolored, profound purples that have dulled to brown over time. These are blood."

This has been nominated for EVERY award this year (or at least three of the major ones), so I find it a bit distressing that I'm am not enjoying it so far. But I guess I'll just keep on truckin...

I haven't been able to get into this quite yet... taking a small break.

Going to give up on this one now and give it to a colleague of mine who will appreciate and like it more. It has some good things going for it, and is a promising debut, but it's not for me and I'm moving on.

This is like The Sopranos, but with the dynastic feel of The Godfather, in space! What more could you ask for? ;-)

I'm torn between giving this three or four stars in my mind, because there are parts (or rather elements) I really like, but the whole worn out copper (ex-cop, private detective, whatever take your pick) beating the pavement trope just doesn't do it for me... We'll see how I feel at the end.

I think this was written by a fith grader. Who was failing English. "The [computer] around my neck is a couple of steps up from the one around your neck. That thing around your neck is the new, fancy self-organizing matrix. But the software isn't all that good at organizing it. Not at all good."

Btw, speaking of Kit (and Kat) reminded me of this gem from page 2: "Each was 120 pounds of death in either hands, feet, or, no doubt, other portions of their lovely bodies."

"Vicky smiled so gullibly" is not a proper sentence. And even if it were, I don't think that word means what you think it means.
