Teresa sounds like a hater. Her point about Nikki not getting “caught up” in the industry was misplaced. Valid argument, wrong time. Not while she’s house shopping, be supportive!! She’s physically leveling up and Teresa wants to throw in a word of caution! Boo!

And and and…yes. Still on the Puff Daddy mention. Nikki was also taken advantage of by a much younger man who continued to harass her. The symmetry between this fictional character and very real Cassie in relation to Diddy is…I’m blind sided. Here I am, enjoying the book after a very skeptical start and you add Diddy to the mix?!? No ma’am, Ms. Barnett. No ma’am.

but also…puff daddy?? Yes, yes. I understand this story takes place in the 90s but still…to use this man in particular?? You could’ve picked Biggie or someone else. Putting Diddy in a fictional story, even mentioning him, after it’s come out he’s a monster in the present is…a choice.

It’s a shame, the women in this story are so unkind to Nicki and it’s like…everyone wants to be snarky about her past. No one sees she was preyed upon? She’s half Alonzo’s age, a new employee with a big dream and he’s her boss. Like…that’s a hierarchy gap and no one is giving shorty grace. That really, really sucks.

Listen. I’m not gonna hold you, I’m only listening to/reading Penn’s essays. I get these two women mean something to him, dear friends, cool. But I’m not invested in them or knowing anything about them at all. These are strangers to me, but I’ve basically grown up watching Penn. It’s almost like he didn’t want to be too exposed so he’s lowkey hiding between these two ladies. Very Scorpionic.

My original critique of this storyline being Elaine’s still stands thus far, though, I am enjoying the story. It’s really compelling. So far, so decent lol

Ugh Ahmad PMO, not you curious now because my girl done beared her whole soul in front of everybody. Yikes asf. Also. Full of self much? Who do you think you are? Nobody is stalking you and there are no coincidences. Ion know. Siren better play in his face a lil longer, I don’t care if he comes begging like a lil puppy dog.

It tickles me to absolutely no end that he was into Black music so young. Dru Hill?! Sisco?! Absolutely, yes. Yes. His interviews make me like his brain but he has been doing his soul work and you can feel it in every sentence. Lowkey, he might be one of my soulmates. Another lifetime? lol

Thank gods Moe finally popped off on Gunner and them!! And why does Tuesday have all this important insight, Paris was in love with Moe the whole time? And is playing in Savannah face lowkey? Gosh. Also. I love my girls Siren and Omni, how they harass the men they’re meant to be with into submission. Would this work in real life? lol also, Siren, in a classroom, telling your story like this? Girl…I guess.

The prose in this story is taking my breath away. The way this author chose to write this book mirrors the urgency and fragmented energy of an intense love story. Literally, the very first sentence had me enrapt. This author’s pen is insane! Also, as a triple fire sign, the fire metaphor being flipped and turned upside down every which way throughout this story is giving me everything I need. So far, so great!

I’m so disappointed with the way it mirror’s Elaine Weltoroth’s actual story. Bi-racial Black girl. Only Black girl in the editor’s office. Similar relationship conundrums. I’ve read this story already! There are too many coincidences so far and I hope this story gets original sooner than later. It might be a DNF, which sucks because the beginning had me locked!!
