This is very boring! Very indicative of Australian trad published romance atm where everything is good romance through a sieve. Taking the bare bones of a thing and giving us garbage. Boring! Booo!! Boooo!!!!

This book is simply not deranged enough. I’m sorry everyone wants to write the cannibalism book but no one is committed to the feral unhinged nature of cannibalism!!!

Also ALSO the scene people hold issue with I’ve seen in other books with no pushback (bc it was clear nonverbal communication but whatever). I think there’s an instinct people have to punish women of colour in books. It’s almost gleeful the way people do it.

Lots of reviews on this book are punitive and also have a very limited view of sexuality and consent imo. Like you have to start somewhere messy to get somewhere good, and there is something to be said about non-verbal cues being important in romance. I think the more romance I read the more annoyed I get with punitive readers.

She’s my favourite archetype - misunderstood mean girl (or mean girl with a heart of gold). I love her, she’s right about everything, she’s so hot!

The thing about this book is I’m kind of obsessed with the push and pull of their dynamic. Of a romance starting with sex, then hate sex, then working backwards to regard the ways they’ve misunderstood each other.

She’s so heinous and I fear I’m a bit turned on by that? Much to consider

This author loves a bit. Elvis Costello v Elvis Presley is one of the funniest and goofiest things I’ve read in a romance novel. That and a boom box playing she as a man is concussed and staring at a pretty girl. Amazing stuff people aren’t weird anymore!

We just don’t do zany weirdos in romance anymore. Everyone is insane! Everyone has a quirk! Bonkers weirdos I’m having the time of my life.

This starchy man is going to be unstarched and I deserve it. I prayed for times like this!
