Like most of the other Japanese literature I have read, it is slow and very delicately written. I don't feel like I have gotten into the story enough to really have a feel for how I am going to feel about it. The Japanese literature I have read I have liked; there has been a delicate beauty to it so I am hopeful. I am sure that a lot of people like the book for its quotes on grief and loss of loved ones.

The book is ok. I cannot think of anything bad or good really to say about it thus far. The classification of this book on goodreads doesn't help this book- mystery? (maybe, but not really), historical fiction (I refuse to see this as historical), thriller (no).....This book feels mostly like a coming of age novel. Thus, it wasn't what I was expecting. The MC does feel a little too naive at times...

If I read "not from round our way" again I think I'll throw the book against the wall. If is like the author is screaming, "the killer is a local!"

This feels more like a coming of age novel than a real mystery.

Since I have come to the conclusion that this book will not improve it's become a real slog to try and get through. It is taking forever... I'd rather do anything besides pick this book back up.

I am beginning to think that the only reason some people like this book is because it makes them think back on their life. Anyone thinking back on their own life has to be more interesting than this guy's life. At this point I just want to power through as quickly as possible to pick up a better book.

Quick read so far, but I am kind of bored. There is no emotion. It deals with death and retrospection; it should be moving, but I am getting nothing. I am hoping we are building to some major emotional punch/great revelation but I am starting to lose hope. So far it feels like a boring, poorly redone take of A Christmas Carol.

I was entertained by this book until I discovered the identity of the killer beast. Then it pretty well lost me. Also, all the misunderstandings between Rose and Gryphon are getting old.

I don't really understand this whole impenetrable wall idea. People have found ways over, under, and through walls for hundreds of years. I have a difficult time buying that they have been behind the walls for so many years, but nothing has gone out or come in by digging, cutting, or climbing.

Reminds me of books like Divergent, Hunger Games, and The Giver. It's entertaining and a very quick read. I'm enjoying it so far.
