I'm having a difficult time getting into this book. I am not too concerned yet because I usually find that See's books are slow burns that eventually become worth it to read.

There are random times throughout the book that make you shake your head in disbelief. I don't think this book was well thought through. She made decisions about the story line that worked best for forcing the story in the direction she wanted without believablity at times. The characters all of a sudden start acting completely different and/or do things they would never do just hours/days earlier.

At around 50% the book takes a complete turn and feels completely different...It feels unbelievable. You have two people that didn't want strangers in their house, now leaving their house to two relative strangers (one is a sister who the MIL never met before the book) to use without them being there for a brothel?? Where things irritated me in the past, but I could overlook, this was not believable at all.

It feels like the story lines should have been two different books.

The story is both interesting and irritating at the same time. It was like the author was trying too hard. There are times when I'm thrown because something feels too comical or too ridiculous. Like the characters being over the top- for example villains being too villainous to be taken seriously. The story has satire vibes which takes from the believability and my enjoyment of the story.

I'm torn.... I didn't know if the book is ok or if it annoys me. I'll have to give it time. I find the MC slightly annoying but she also has a good heart so I'm torn. Also all the wealthy people seem evil or ignorant. I hate tearing down down one set of people to make another set look better. There could at least be one good wealthy person. It's glaringly apparent from the very beginning what the "cannery" really is.

I'm two chapters in and the words are just not flowing. I feel like I'm getting the jist of the story, but not really absorbing what I'm reading. My mind wanders. I don't know if it's me or the book, but I'm not fully engaging. I'll probably check on the reviews to see if I want to move on to something else or give it a little longer.

Complete trashy entertainment. Barnes seems to be pulling me back into trashy entertainment. The story is ridiculous, but for some reason I am still enjoying it.

Just what I need for a hectic summer read. Plus, it takes place at a lake during the summer so it is fitting.

Difficult to read, there is a lot of violence- rape, prostitution, sexual violence, parental violence,... It's not pleasant. I feel like I need a scalding shower.. There's a lot of unbelievable scenes - how he gets his job in football, the courtroom cross,... It all feels very heavy handed and unrealistic. I'm glad the book is so short because I wouldn't finish it. Didn't realize what I was getting myself into
