I think this is the longest 100 page book I have read yet. This is taking me forever to finish.

I've heard of people talking about advent books, but I had never read one. I was surprised to find that this was an advent book. I will not be reading one chapter a day since it is already mid December and I have other Christmas books to read this year, but it is a cute idea. So far it is a cute, fun Christmas story.

It is difficult not to take the granddaughter as melodramatic about everything now. I enjoy the grandma's post WWII story much more than the present day story.

I am having a difficult time relating to the granddaughter. I have teens in that age and am around their friends and I I just cannot imagine any of them ever acting like her. I can see them being upset, but this feels like toddler level petulance.

Really hoping to finish this today so that I can move on to another book. I've grown bored with this one.

After all the character set up I've had a difficult time getting back into the story. It feels like I'm doing the book equivalent of watching YouTube videos of people playing games or unboxing toys, which I never understood the appeal. The book started out well, but lost it's momentum just as quickly.

I am not usually one for fantasy or YA books, but I was looking for fun Christmas reads and this one keeps getting mentioned in all Christmas lists. I was surprised in the beginning how the book drew me in. However, once they turned it into a real life game of D&D I was immediately turned off. I have played D&D a few times with my kids. Personally, I don't see the appeal...and reading about it even less so.

These books are a good palate cleanser- suspended belief, read quickly so you don't overthink the story and pick it apart and it's a decent reset. That being said, this book walks a fine line between being mildly entertaining and being too much and really annoying. I'm glad Gigi isn't in the book too often. After a while I find Gigi really annoying.
