I think it’s impossible for me to like a protagonist who describes ALL plays as boring but loves Dear Evan Hansen.

I feel like the character has described herself as sunshiney and/or optimistic about 25 times in the first five chapters and I reeeeeeally hope the whole book isn't like this.

"I shot through my twenties like a luminous thread through a dark needle, blazing towards my destination: nowhere."

"I feel like I'll let people down If I take away the behaviour they've grown accustomed to disapproving of."

I love Carrie Fisher's writing, it's pure acid (in more ways than one).

I cannot describe what a turn-off it is for a playwright character to say "old plays bore me."

"The world goes crazy every three or four decades. The trick is to survive until it goes sane again." Oof.

I am not interested in 'can women be heroes?' but rather 'how do women **access** heroism uniquely.' But so far the discussion feels a bit dated--the Penelopiad came out 20 years ago, and we are currently buried in Madeline Miller-style retellings of myths from female perspectives, so pointing out that some modern stories are more interested in female interiority just doesn't seem all that novel.

Using this as a placeholder for the one-act play DISNEY/FUJIKAWA by Lloyd Suh that imagines a wartime conversation between Walt Disney and Gyo Fujikawa.
