I had to stop reading this series. The first book was well done and i blew through it, but after that, the second one just could not hold my attention.

FLEW through the first book. The second one is not holding my attention like the first did.

Imagine how different things might have been if, let's say, they HAD evac'd even thinking it was just a minor accident spreading radiation to the near-by town.

32 hours to finally issue the evacuation order! As much as I can't wrap my head around most of the stuff that's happened thus far, I literally cannot even begin to comprehend what would cause them to endanger human life for so long, just to contain the information and keep the rest of the world from finding out about how USSR ran and how epically they fucked up.

It's going a little faster and easier now that there's less explanation of who's who, what everything is, how it all fits together, and why everything was the way it was. Shit has hit the fan and now we're dealing with the literal fallout.

I feel like there is a lot of information and a lot of repetition/explanation of things that are probably very important, but also, not that important to me. There's also a bunch of things that I've had to go back to re-read or look up in an outside source to fully understand. Sometimes the explanation of things is a little more scientific than I can get with the language the author uses.

This is slow going, something things have had to be re-read for even minute comprehension. There's a lot of back information, history of Russia, Soviet Union, or USSR, biographies of people involved in any way. And some googling of groups or people or other disasters/places mentioned. But, maybe, just maybe, there is a slight understanding of how all this works. Probably not though.

Wow, there's a lot to unpack so far.

Ehhh, not the worst, not the best. Read a LOT like the first season of the show, it was good to know they stayed true to the source material, at least for a little while.

Parting is such sweet sorrow, I say good night til I've napped and can think straight again.

God, Hilly Holbrook... What a useless waste of human.

I hate Miss Leefolt. Poor little Mae Mobley. She's cursed with a horrible name and an even worse mother.

So far, this book is beautiful and tragic. It makes me so sad how poorly the maids are treated and the fact that it's not exactly fiction, and that it's not exactly in the past.

Don't bang the guy who carries dirty panties and used condoms in his pocket.

Drop the friend who will probably literally get you beat to death, because she will probably get you beat to death with her stupid antagonizing of the dude who carries dirty panties and used condoms around.

Don't go out for dinner and drinks with the "friend" who got drunk, tried to rape you, then blamed you for it.

"He'd probably like to beat seven shades of shit out of me."

And... Yup... There's just so much wrong with that statement.

Holy crap.
All in one page. And then, talk of a menstrual cycle. Awesome.

Pretty sure I'm only going to be able to make it through the first book, if I can even make it there.

MaryAna SueBella and her 2 other personalities are just stupid, she seems to realize that he's a horrible abuser with a rough childhood, and she is begging him to make her a slave. And the writing is just BAD. "I long to touch him. 'I want to touch you.'" "I cry out- from the slap and from his sudden assault." If you don't want us to think it's about abuse, don't use words like assault.
