Wow, I forgot how much I love how Darcey Steinke writes her characters. They have this sadness or desperation to them that can seem uniquely or outlandishly individual yet I often find myself rereading a sentence or paragraph multiple times and recognizing it in my own life or in those I have known and loved if not both. I need to reread Suicide Blonde, twice through Jesus Saves was enough for me though. Maybe.

Yes, so far it is classicly Faustian and somewhat chiche. Satan's human name is a play of Lucifer the Lightbringer, I guess subscribing to those four lines in the bible that refer to a Morningstar (which is also what the Jews called the moon at the time) and to his descending to the pit, but mostly to Dante's work which was less a religious text than it was a work of political satire. But I like this kind of stuff.

I've been looking for this and this morning got updated on youtube with one, there is another audio version on archive.org. If you like strange, fantastical, Lovecratian, or blasphemous tales, subscribe to the former channel. Archive.org is incredible as well.

So far Nietszche's criticisms Christianity include some I'd never even thought of, and spent a decade in a southern catholic school.

Matthew McKenna is 43% done with The Sparrow (The Sparrow, #1)
Synopsis: A handful of Jesuits use an asteroid to make a mission trip to an unknown civilization in Alpha centauri and violent misunderstanding ensues.

Despite being like the product of a timeless human tradition and some sci-fi mad-libbing, it's a pretty compelling story so far.

This kept me up all night, but it has so far told me nothing I don't know about Wahabism and the infernal nonsense of the Quran. The main character, who was born a Jew gets sucked into Islam and then begins workin in a compound of backwards, anti-semetic, misogynistic, wantonly servile Islamists. I don't feel bad for the narrator who learns to stifle ll his rational and kind impulses because he's a sad, lonely man.

I always knew that the church had an incredibly shady past, but fuck... If Jesus ever was to come back (exceedingly doubtful) he'd have one hell of a lawsuit.

Tolstoy always seems to soothe my antipathy for the christian bullshit of today by decrying the hypocrisy and falsity of the christianity of 19th century Russia. He'd be apoplectic if he could see it today, but then he'd probably be pretty pissed off that he ended up just rotting in the ground. At least his prose has attained immortality.
