Okay, I appreciate that hell is a writers' market. That made me laugh.

It’s p. 400. Why is Alice still thinking of Grimes as basically good? Argh.

I’m finding this so weirdly antifeminist, anti-education so far. Scratching my head.

Professor Grimes is odious—but so is Alice.

I don’t even think it passes the basic Bechdel test.

Ugh. I'm struggling at p.200. There's no mystery. No suspense. King turned Holly into his preachy feminine stand-in.

Example:

"Wait one. Let me park." Holly pulls into a vacant space. She never talks on her phone while she's driving unless she has absolutely no choice and thinks people who behave otherwise are idiots. It's just not against the law, it's dangerous."

I mean, YES, of course. But also EYE ROLL.

My library suspended fines this year; the only reason I'm still slugging away at this thing.

This is dragging for me and due back to the library in two days ...

Am now suitable bowled over by the prose as of Book 2. Was starting to wonder a bit in the first book, but, MY GOODNESS, Bad News is brilliant prose. Hate the characters, hate the story, hell, hate the writer if you'd like, but damn if this isn't one of the best written novels I've read .... since my last Ferrante.

On a scale of 1 to 4 Ferrante's, Book Two is a 4.

On to book 3!

I hate all of the adults so far except Anne. Yes, I'm going unabashedly with the American this time. Yeesh.

If you don’t exclaim oh wow or some version thereof at least twice while reading this you aren’t but half alive.
