brightredglow is starting The Will of the Many (Hierarchy, #1)
This is gonna take me awhile. I don't read fantasy often enough and this is dense with information.

Very good so far. As a mystery, it doesn't seem hard to figure out the who dun it but as a character study, it is very well done.

As a Little Women modern retelling, it matches up while managing an original story. I still loathe Jo. She's so pretentious and I like that the author keeps that up. I like that Meg gets more of a fleshed out characterization. Amy is Amy.

Still taking this slow, but I have arrived on my 1st criticism. Chap 5 seems to lead up to the Revolutionary War but then Chap 6 skips over it. Now that Chap 6 doesn't have interesting points. It does make the aftermath and shakiness of the new country clear and immediate. It just seemed a bit of a letdown. Still, I continue.

Been so busy that I haven't had a chance to sit and finish this but I am up to 145 which close to the halfway point.

I am finally ready to move on from page 175 which is the last page of chapter 5 of "Settler Uprising". I feel like I read this chapter many times and I still feel like there are pieces that I've missed. Each chapter feels pivotal, but this chapter is frustratingly so as it sets up for the next stage which, to be honest, I don't know if I am ready for.

Got this after a recommendation. Very reasonably priced as a Kindle. So far, I am liking it. I really appreciate how straightforward the author is keeping the narrative. Simple and clean and easy to follow.

Impact of the 7 years on the Native Americans and honestly, they were trying to figure out a way to keep some balance. It is a skill of the author that the distance between myself and the history is starting to close. I'm starting the feel the helplessness of the inevitable.

Started this as Kindle read when I was at the laundry area this morning. There are parts that I skimmed (history as re-related by Stephens). I did find his side comments about the history interesting but still a bit too dry. It is now getting interesting now that they have left Merida.

Still going slow but design. I can see why it is titled "Rediscovery" as I feel like I'm rediscovering the history of this country. It isn't so much denying as it is filling in the gaps to make the history fuller and more complete.

Getting used to the presentation. It is an academic book so there is a dryness to it as well as being dense with information. I admire people who can read these types of books quickly and also retain the information. I'm not one of them, that's for sure, but it is an interesting read.

Only on page 72 and it is rough. The history is dry, but the cost in people, of how many were lost to disease, to war, to captivity, is still staggering.

My initial assessment that I would need to read a little at a time is sort of confirmed from these first 30 pages. Very interesting but dense with info. If I read too fast, I'll forget everything. Slow but steady is the way to go for me.

This is such a weird series but I am liking it. It is wears its oddity on its sleeve while also capturing some of the awkwardness of youth. At least so far. I'm know the narrative gets more focused but I kinda like the rambling ambling that is happening right now.

Reading this is like going back in time for me. I feel like Dominis Holt wrote this book more to preserve a memory of time that was already fading in the 1970s, but there are parts that I can recognize in this young man's narration of his summer in Waimea with his uncle Fred. The time period is early 20th century so it is a very specific 'bridge of time'. It is hitting me in unexpected ways.

Think I'll be DNF'ing this one. It is giving me 'dark academia' vibes which hasn't been a good fit for me when it comes to reading. I've gotten to 100 pages, which surprises me, but I'm not keen on continuing.

real life business is causing slow progress. still with gilbert's pov and i'm okay with that because he has a wit to him that's makes him easy company as a narrator. looking forward to having more time to read today.
