Hope thinks it’s rude to say:”no thank you, not now.”
Apparently, rather than teach her children to set healthy boundaries, her mom thaught her to be a doormat.

She usually didn’t speed, but under the circumstances, she made an exception.
One of the circumstances being snow and ice on the roads.

This book could be 40% shorter if all the unnecessary descriptions were left out.
On the other hand, it’s not mentioned if she put on her outside shoes/boots in the mudroom (or was wearing them in the kitchen).

she lifted a finger to indicate she needed a moment
The moment someone, who engaged me in a conversation I don’t want to have “tells” me to wait, is the moment I continue walking.
It is the handgesture that I find most offensive.

What, because he confessed to two murders everything he says is now treated as the whole truth?

Frank had most likely discovered Dana’s true identity.
Frank was hired by Nate. Dana’s true identity was his starting point.

Not to mention I haven’t seen nor heard from my only son in days.

How long has it been since Josh has had anything to eat or drink? It sounds like he has a hard time processing new information.
Would probably also help if Holly give direct information rather than clues for him to puzzle together.

Not much of an alibi if Oma was asleep herself.

Do I need a lawyer?
said the tech-millionair.
I’m surprised he didn’t say a page ago: I don’t like the route this line of questioning is taking. I decline to answer any further questions until I gave a lawyer present.

Yes, you judgmental old farth, he stayed with me. We were very careful to keep the weight off his injured leg.

Ben is the worst lawyer Josh could have to represent him. One moment he gives off the suggestion Josh is a client, the next he questions Josh’s innocence in front of a police officer.
He’s not supposed to say anything that may harm the defence of his client.

I don’t think they even knew the police was outside waiting for them. They just doubled back and went the other way.

Ben’s a lawyer, but is he contract law? Can’t be criminal law; he gives terrible legal advice. Or at least, he doesn’t seem to grasp the concept that the burden of proof lies with the police, not with whoever the police like to have a chat with.

If the italics weren’t bad enough, the love interest wants his girlfriend to change her plans (for a summer job and her education) to convenience him.
Love that.

Italics for a flashback.
It does not speak well for the publisher/editor that flashbacks are in italics.
Particularly not given that the main character grew up with a reading disability. Italics are much harder to read.

I don’t think I’m cut out for romance novels where the male love-interest is being a dick from the beginning.
The guy can’t even muster a ‘hello’ and polite nod at first meeting.
First impressions are important.

I’m already disappointed in this book, and yet, the final reveal managed to disappoint me even more.
I think the author never got a good grip on the murder mystery and just wanted to be done with it.
