Never a good sign if I start reading the 1 and 2 star reviews before finishing a book. It never improves the reading experience.

I don’t think I’m cut out for romance novels where the male love-interest is being a dick from the beginning.

The guy can’t even muster a ‘hello’ and polite nod at first meeting.

First impressions are important.

I’m already disappointed in this book, and yet, the final reveal managed to disappoint me even more.

I think the author never got a good grip on the murder mystery and just wanted to be done with it.

You have not been investigating the murders.

You have gossipped about it, like all your neighbours.

and his sister isn’t the most reliable when it comes to preparing meals.

Why should she be responsible for meal prep? Trevor is old enough to learn that if you want to eat, you’ve got to cook.

Refrigerator moment: someone mentioned that Tim told Missy a few times how much she looked like his sister Gloria. Helena knew Gloria very well, and Missy too, if only from living on the same island for forty years. Why has she not mentioned the similarity?

Basically, the way lawyer Brad explains the law, when someone is killed, no one can inherit. Even the rightfull heirs benefit from someone’s primature death.

That is not a correct interpretation.

“Okay. Jack’s not a suspect, but he’s a person of interest in the Faraday case.” […]
“That’s possible. But until I talk to Jack, I won’t know his side of the story.”

Excuse me, what? You are telling random people someone is a person of interest in a murder case BEFORE you know anything about their involvement? I think that counts as defamation, even if you are chief of police.

If Tim has been acting like the owner of the VanPatten farm for over 40 years - and in that time no one has refuted that claim - doesn’t that mean he know simple owns it? Brad, as a lawyer, and his title researcher should know about such laws.

There are so few teenagers living on the island.

There must be enough to have highschool.

There are dogs that don’t even go after a burglar during a burglary. Giving chase is not in every dogs DNA.

It’s been over twenty years. Surely, the statued of limitation on the break-up of a relationship that lasted less than a year is shorter than that.

Has this author been watching Flemish children’s television?

I doubt he forgot: Delia heard the news report after Connor left the house in the morning. It is very likely he was not informed about the murder yet.

Out of nowhere Delia wonders if Missy was kidnapped as a child because her parents were late 30’s/early 40’s and “that’s kind a old for first time parents”. The policeman laughs it off, but really he should have pointed out there are many reasons why people become parents later in life, and none make them into criminals.

40 is above average, but someone’s got to offset all the teen pregnancies.

Should he be telling her this? Shouldn’t some information be kept from the public to be able to check confessions for veracity?

Also, is she interviewed as a witness or as a possible person of interest? It’s not been mentioned she’s a person of interest, but why wouldn’t she be? She had at least opportunity.

I don’t remember much from two nights ago. I didn’t think there was going to be a quiz.

I know this is a murder mystery, an’ all, but have you ruled out suicide without a doubt? It’s possible to poison yourself without leaving a note.

Last time he’d been in Seal Bay, he’d threatened Elowen, kidnapped her, demanded ransom.

And wasn’t arrested or prosecuted? Or did he get a very mild sentence and no one thought it necessary to let the victims know the offender was out of prison?

All of a sudden, she knew.

Without actually doing any sleuthing.

‘How? I know he’s special, but he can’t walk on water.’

Or, Tristan doesn’t take the boat out until the father and daughter of his girl-friend are on board.

I know there’s a schedule, but surely the can manage to make changes so the whole family can be included.
