Unrelatedly, ancient Egypt wouldn't have worked if the Nile was toxic. Weirdly that's what's threatening my suspension of disbelief the most in this book. Not the zombies. Or the universe-hopping.

This reads like Brothers Grimm or the old Andrew Lang fairy tale books...very nostalgic, I love it.

This book can't decide if it wants to be Kushiel's Dart or Lord of the Rings, which is just a bizarre combination.

The problem with having two villains with the same title and surname is that, if you are constantly using their title/surname, then the reader has a hard time keeping track of where the slightly evil one is, and where the very evil one is, and what they're each up to.

I only care about one plotline out of the six or so we've been introduced to. Can I count this as read if I wind up skimming most of it?

On the bright side, the LBA collapse has already been mentioned. Also, unrelated, there's a typo on page 16.

This is really just a slower-paced Red Rising, isn't it? Not that I'm complaining.

Well, it took 200 pages to get interesting, but it did get there.

I thought this would be too meta and literary for me to enjoy, and it's not! (so far, fingers crossed)
