never thought i’d find myself genuinely enjoying a ww2 era novel written by a man

Yeah I’m not the target audience for this. Time to DNF.

I’m so torn because while most of these make me wonder where the fuck her editor is, if she even HAS one, a few of them are actually not bad. I’ve even counted 3 that I find genuinely really good! So literally what on Earth is happening here. Why was this not edited? Was someone afraid of telling Halsey “no”? Was the publisher like “who care, they’ll buy it anyways”? I’m so confused

why do men love to write casual infidelity into their weird little self-insert novels? don’t answer that, actually. I know why 😒

Stop relying on constant miscommunication as a plot device. I’m begging you. I’m starting to get annoyed.

Without being nit-picky—I AM having fun. Don’t get me wrong. I am enjoying myself. But it’s so weird when it feels like all the research done for a book (a book that, mind you, halfway takes place around the turn of the century in the early 1900s) started and ended in google searches. And there was no research done at all on how expulsions from school systems work. SORRY I KNOW I SAID I WOULDNT NITPICK BUT—

I’m just barely tolerating the drama created for these teens to deal with. Yes, yes, violence against others and the moral repercussions of having inflicted it… I get what the author is trying to do here, but it feels like they’ve fallen into a morality trap where they have to justify actions taken against abusers/oppressors. And don’t even get me started on using lying as a defining characteristic. C’mon.

this book is so ridiculously fun I keep giggling to myself at these funny teens dealing with the Horrors
