Wow, that's a lot of twists for one single issue (#57). I wonder if Niles Caulder of the Doom Patrol TV show is going to turn out as much a piece of shit as his comics counterpart?

Grant Morrison did a lot of amazing things in comics, but Flex Mentallo might just be his greatest creation. And yes, his debut in Doom Patrol is great, but for my money his solo mini-series with Frank Quitely’s art is one of the best superhero comics of all time.

I knew at some point the book would get Weeeeird, Man™, and #38 is that point. I still absolutely dig it, though I can’t say I fully understand what’s going on with Rhea and all those alien races that showed up seemingly out of nowhere, but it kind of reminds me of that stroke of genius Morrison pulled later in Final Crisis with Superman Beyond, so of course I’m into it.

Brilliant, now that song will be stuck in my head for the rest of the day! #34 was an excellent issue, by the way.

This is great so far. Morrison’s ideas are wild as always, and yet all of it’s presented in such an accessible and playful way, it’s just tons of fun to read. Definitely has those early Vertigo vibes with a bit of a mean streak, as well, but not to the point of being off-putting or gross.

Slowly getting back into comics after a bit of a break, might as well do some updates. I procured this omnibus a few days ago, really happy to finally have the entire series in one (enormous) tome that I can read from beginning to end. Doom Patrol is one of the remaining few major Morrison works I haven’t read yet, so I’m super excited.

Finally re-reading this masterpiece now that this handsome omnibus is out and in my hands. Even better than I remember it so far! The introduction of Damian in the first four issues is such a bright, swift and exciting piece of comics history, an absolute masterclass from Morrison in storytelling.

Currently suffering my way though The Long Halloween (it's so bad, guys!) and I needed something really good and angry as a secondary read to let off some steam, and that's why I finally decided to do what I've been planning to do since last year: re-read Preacher.

As 30’s and 40’s turn to 50’s and 60’s, Superman’s adventures become more and more extravagant and sci-fi oriented. He starts traveling through time, flying to space and other planets, and his Super-family begins to expand, as well. Otto Binder’s introduction of Brainiac is superb, and Jerry Siegel’s Supergirl coming out party is very cheesy, but in the sweetest way possible.

Siegel and Shuster’s original Superman work reads incredibly well for something that was written in late 30’s – early 40’s. And several essays collected here about their life and work are very inspiring, especially the one by Jerry Siegel’s daughter.

So many elements of this book were adapted into Thor movies (and specifically Thor: Ragnarok, which is my favourite of the bunch). It's awesome to see all of these little nods and realise where they came from. Thor, Mjolnir and Loki's head between them — awesome in the movie, even more awesome in the comic!

I took a bit of a break from this giant omni because of my Superman read-a-thon, but now I'm back at it, and the action is starting to ramp up. I still can't get over how awesome Simonson's art looks, even three decades after it was originally published.

While not every aspect of Simonson's Thor withstands the test of time, when it comes to suspense and epic fantasy there's just nothing else quite like it. Incredible stuff.

Damn, this is dull. I really don’t see how this story could improve at this point — the last 100 or so pages were an absolute drivel that doesn’t go anywhere. Should I just give up already?..

The Smart Harry versus Snape and Dumbledore is easily the most glorious thing to ever happen in the entirety of Harry Potter. I’m telling ya, this fanfic is infinitely better than anything Rowling herself has ever written.

This book will probably take me more than a year to finish with my current speed. Then again, it never fails to lift my spirits when I’m feeling down, so I really don’t mind it being so long.

I have the worst luck with books lately. Can’t say I’m enjoying this so far, and not sure if I’ll be able to finish it. Pretty boring stuff, the new characters aren’t that interesting and the old ones don’t feel like themselves at all. Maybe it’ll get better as the book goes along...

I haven't picked it up in over a month, but now I'm back at it and making progress! This book is a lot of fun. I love every sarcastic jab at JK Rowling's problematic world building. Yudkowsky clearly loves the world of Harry Potter, but just like me, he can't get over so many baffling and stupid things that plague the books.
