This one is very hard for me to read. The whole conflict hinges on basic misunderstandings that would be cleared up in an instant if the characters would just talk to one another, but ofc they can't, and it makes me cringe inside the whole time I'm reading

I cannot tell a lie, I am finding this book a bit of a slog. The writing is good! In fact sometimes it's *too* good, and I wish the author would chill out with the lyrical prose and just tell the story. It also hops around from character to character way too much, making it hard for me to invest in anyone.

One of the least likeable protagonists I've ever encountered

This was highly recommended for kids, so it's our next family read-aloud

Kind of a tough read for me. Fascinating, but there's a lot of "telling" that for me bogs down the pace. Not that I can think of a better way to tell the story, or would dare suggest it if could!
