I’m starting to find books so hard to rate w the star system. Would need a convo to give anyone my full review. This was unlike anything I had read before - a true cautionary tale (be content), a sad tragedy, strong characters. It made me think and was well-written and apparently well-translated. But I may not be built for reading too many like this. I still feel sad about it🥺.

Once upon a time, I read this to Nate and Timothy. Just finished with Daniel and Annie. Great read-aloud, though wait until kids are a little older (8+??). We also did some of the book on audio this time, which was super!

This is actually a reread bc the boys and I listened to it on audio a long, long time ago. It was one of our favorites and I can’t wait to reread with Dan and Annie! I think it will be a perfect and cozy fall read!

Great series to read aloud as a family, even if you do it slowly like we did. We are eagerly about to begin the final book. This 2nd one has us rolling at points😂.

I loved this book and all the characters a whole lot. Thanks for the rec, Sarah Pitts! I want to read more from this author. It reminded me how a little love for and time w children who are hurting in my community (not just focusing on my own kids) can go a long way in someone’s life. I loved the weaving in of the theme of James Audubon’s bird art!!!

We have enjoyed this series and especially this one. My only thing is I think there are too many important characters - at least for reading out loud it can be a challenge. But the story, oh the story! It is super.💚💚💚
