I did not like the third story, Fire in the Earth. It was a boring topic on coal mining and the only thing sci-fi about it was an epilogue based in the far future by students studying the account.

The flowery vocabulary is not moving the story much. It is a slog to read. Most of the writing is in the mind of the protagonist.
