Pausing to get in a Spooktober read. Hope I remember what's going on when I resume... Oh wait... nothing's going on.

Oh. My. God. Five stars is an impossibility at this point. This started strong. Word is it ends strong. But this middle section... Tedium, thy name is Moby Dick. And I haven't even gotten to the snooze-worthy rumored blubber and jism chapters yet! This is going to have to have one hell of an ending to even get close to four stars. Anyway, full steam ahead... I guess?

I'm afraid I'm enjoying this in spite of my determination to do otherwise, at least the 14 murders plot. And the abortion speaker plot is okay too. Main cast of usual characters is still annoying, but Holly's not as annoying as she used to be, so that's good.

Another damn Holly book. Well, let's get it over with. You know, being a "constant reader" who's read it all and plans to stick with it ain't always what it's cracked up to be. Maybe this will be a pleasant surprise. I'm not expecting that due to the synopsis, but hope springs eternal.

After three dystopian novels in a row, it's nice to be moving on to something pleasant.

To be in your quiet house alone at night and hear a couple of inexplicable thumps in the other room behind you while reading about the Thought Police making a surprise raid can be... unnerving.

Dammit man, I can't not see it when I come across it now! And it looks like even the classics undulate.

Pausing to kick off Christmas reading. I had hoped to finish this by Thanksgiving, but November was quite the busy month. I'm pretty sure I'll remember what was going on when January rolls around.

Picking this up again after an eight and a half year hiatus, and probably just in the nick of time. I told you I'd get back to it!

Ok, I was wrong in the last update. There's a city afternoon parade before the Joker's evening parade in the book which was cut, so that Prince song was misplaced. Woops!

Anyway, I've taken off my makeup. Let's see if you can take off yours.

This thing is losing stars fast in the second half. The parade scene was drastically altered (and thank God Tim Burton & co. made those changes), but still, who do you trust?

Where are we going?

Not that anybody cares, but this was my mother's favorite scene in the movie. It was one of my faves, too, but doesn't get the top spot. The music for it is perfect, though.

The music for the movie plays in my head as I get to certain scenes. Why shouldn't y'all enjoy Danny Elfman's fantastic score as well?

Man, they are abridging the ever living hell out of this audiobook version (narrated by Walter Covell though he's doing great reading it). They've cut out almost all of Gavroche's adventures! And that's not to mention the other stuff. I might have to give this a hatchet job with my review since they did such a thorough one on the book. Sheesh!

This abridgement is skipping some great parts, but leaving in some crap that could easily be whittled down. I like the part where Valjean accidentally gets buried, it's actually quite comical at the end. They allude to that happening but completely skip the scene itself. Oh well.

And another one bites the dust, and another one gone, and another one gone... Ain't these people ever gonna catch a break? Is Robert McCammon the reincarnation of Thomas Hardy? Gracious!

I have a sinking feeling child Roland is going to be trouble... Maybe not an intentional villain, but probably bad news. Only one way to find out.
