this book is currently ruining my life. would not recommend.

i have a feeling this one is gonna be relatable.

love when authors connect their characters across books. just got to the beth cameo from rose code.

someone pls tell me that this book turns around. i LOVE RF Kuang but The Poppy War feels so distant from the tightly woven plots of Babel and Yellowface… this one just feels sloppy.

lots of going to peoples’ houses and visiting. no other plot at this point.

needed a break from reading about religious violence… not sure if emily henry is the answer to this but alas!

should be classified as a horror novel

literally wtffffff… it’s beautiful but also some of these plot elements are highly unnecessary at this point (??)

the writing is good but it’s not doing what i want it to do (get me out of a reading rut)

biggest plot twist i’ve read in a long long time

i’m halfway thru and i wanted to love this so much but the author needs to stop blatantly philosophizing on every page. the message the book is trying to convey is definitely worthy but it could be done so much more subtly.
