"Your responses to the arts and aesthetics are as individual as the geometry of a snowflake. ... One person’s cacophony is another person’s symphony. And your perception is your reality."

This is the reason why I want to get into art consumption (maybe even drawing). I have been thinking about this for at least a year now and so far this book is reinforcing that plan

"to understand the great religious upheaval of the 16th, all we need to keep in mind is the fact that religion was as symbiotically linked to politics, social structures, culture, the economy, and even the climate as all these other factors were to another. It was a symbiosis as intense and complex as that found among components of an ecosystem: all changes and developments were somehow related to one another."

- On March 16, 1611, the season of Lent everyone was supposed to obtain from sinful behavior, yet María Fernández and Ana Díaz fought at church
- Religious values and norms are pure wishes that even in premodern Western Europe people didn't live by "To say that premodern Western European culture was deeply religious ... is not to say that Europeans were necessarily pious, or that they lived up to their ideals."

The Reformation and Counter-Reformation were important changes in the early modern era. The Council of Trent led to the Tridentine reforms in the Catholic Church. Some historians now see these changes as multiple Reformations. Both Protestant and Catholic churches had similar goals despite theological differences. In the 1450s, the Renaissance, emerging states, and a growing economy influenced society.

I just read the introduction and a section on (and a section on intermittent fasting).
Whether it delivers or not, I like the premise: be to the best version of yourself, to take control of your life and to live it the way you want, not just the way you have to. I hope it will be Emerson 2.0. The down side is the bro mentality crap. If I want to be the best version of myself, why bother with manhood stereotyping?
