One for the Mitford tragics. A nice companion to the individual memoirs/novels of Honks, Soo, Woo, Bobo, Boud and Hen.

Genuinely unsure if this novel is intended to be satire.

Chemists at the dinner table call salt sodium chloride; everyone is ridiculously, cartoonishly mean to the main character (why do they care enough to be that mean?).

ALSO, did you know you can teach yourself to row with men who are bigger and probably stronger than you just by reading a physics textbook?

Finally, the end of my reading slump! This is the first book in a couple of months that I haven’t been able to put down. Feels very fresh as I remember absolutely nothing from the movie.

This is a fun bit of escapism but I CANNOT believe how many weird, obvious typos there are in this book. (‘Workgy’, anyone? How about ‘apoca-lypse’? ‘Know-ledge’?) It’s getting distracting. Also, one of the quotes at the beginning of a chapter is misattributed. These things are annoying and they take me away from the story.

Really enjoying the new (free!) audiobook on Spotify, narrated by David Dobrik.

This is the sort of book you can pick up months later and continue on with as though no time has passed. You don’t have to worry about forgetting details of the plot because there isn’t one.

That said, the writing is beautiful and I’ve found the observations about Christianity and faith to be very insightful - I’m just not sure I’ll make it to the end.

Interesting concept but very average writing, the kind that makes you constantly stop and notice it when it should just be carrying you along with the flow. The author uses a very 'self-interrogative' style a la Carrie Bradshaw. Not sure I'll be able to get through it.
