I truly didn't get that Al Gore is a hardcore mega-nerd, until listening to this book. I'm impressed.

For the record, I actually bought this book - specifically so I didn't have to rush through it. It is AWESOME so far!!

One of my all time faves but the audiobook is.... not great. 😕

Madam Mim is much scarier than when I read this is grade 6.

Schlossberg is pretty funny.

Long book that is starting to feel too long. Some characters are great so far, some are meh. I was ready to give it up until something super cool happened, so... We'll see how it pans out.

The paper book is already terrific and hard to put down!

The audiobook is AWFUL! The reader's voice is killing me.
However, I LOVED Song of Achilles, so I'm going to switch over to the paper version and give it another go...

Ugh, an initial flip-through hurts - this books' portrayal of PoC is so offensive - it was definitely a product of its time (1930). The foreward states: "In his portrayal of the Belgian Congo, the young Hergé reflects the colonial attitudes of the time. He himself admitted that he depicted his Africans according to the bourgeouis, paternalistic stereotypes of the period.[...]" *understatement*

This book is surprisingly funny... "We come now to a piece of equipment which still brings anger to our hearts and, we hope, some venom to our pen. Perhaps in our self-defense against suit, we should say, "The outboard motor mentioned in this book is purely fictitious and any resemblance to outboard motors living or dead is coincidental."
And it only gets better from there...
