Very clever.

This novel is absolutely delightful.

Absolutely delightful. Funny. Charming, Smart.

At first, charming, but now this reads like a clever assemblage of details and activities with very little substance.

Audio quality is terrible, but some useful practical tips.

Once again, great premise that goes off the rails. Eve is irksome.

Old fashioned

The final scene in book one is worth the semi-slog to get there. The political scaffolding...sigh. That's the stuff of history books, even for the 19th century looking back at the 15th century. GE always seemed to eb concerned about projecting cerebral qualities.

Aiming for 50 pages daily. Slow going.

This book in its format couldn't be published today.

Nostalgic in an odd way

GE said, "I started writing Romola as a young woman and finished it as an old woman." Yeah, I get that. Poor GE, so cerebral and scholarly, so unable to forge a Hardy-esque connection.

Reads like a self published book, but of course it can't be, and published by Knopf no less. 1981 sure does seem old and clunky.

Bright light, hot drink, stiff chair, pen, desk type of book.

His wife, her husband, her two children, his six xhildren, her sister... let's just say a dozen people clobbered for one selfish woman's folly.

This isn't going to be easy
