So far it’s annoyingly New York-ie, but is getting better. I’m reading this for a book club; probably would never read this otherwise. However, I have not yet thrown it across the room.

Started off slow: explaining the Specie Resumption Act to a modern audience steeped in fiscal vs. monetary policy and the way the Federal Reserve Board controls the banking system is extremely difficult and to me in this case not very successful. But in Chapter 9, things get very real. Holt describes an amazingly chaotic election infrastructure. These are NOT the good ol’ days. I’m on the edge of my seat.

Really good. In this case, 77% means finished: th rest of the book is notes.

Excellent

Pretty bad so far; if it wasn’t in my book club, I never would have picked it up, and don’t know if I can finish.
