Started off slow: explaining the Specie Resumption Act to a modern audience steeped in fiscal vs. monetary policy and the way the Federal Reserve Board controls the banking system is extremely difficult and to me in this case not very successful. But in Chapter 9, things get very real. Holt describes an amazingly chaotic election infrastructure. These are NOT the good ol’ days. I’m on the edge of my seat.
