Finished reading The Hedge Knight with Ally in preparation for the TV adaptation, which has been great so far. I might have oversold the “lighter tone” of this compared to ASoIaF, because the end hit harder than either of us were prepared for. Still a great story and some of GRRM’s best work.

Third (fourth?) time’s the charm?

Gotta shelve this one for now. A pretty strong start, but the nature of Mr. Orlong and his friends and the “children” they encounter left me less interested. Then the multiple repetitions of the capture-escape cycle had me rolling my eyes.

Finished book 1. Glad I came back to check this out at a time in my life when an Arthur retelling focused on female PoVs is interesting to me and doesn’t make me go, “Ew girls, just get to the sword fights.”

Not feeling this one as much as I wanted to, and there’s only so much time left in my discounted Audible membership. I’m in favor of straightforward prose, but this feels a little too YA and blandly expository to hold interest. Too zoomed into the boring parts Elmore Leonard talks about cutting. Fun-ish, but not enough to stick for now.

Listening to check out the Steven Pacey hype, since none of Joe Abercrombie books are available right now.
